It was
a primary nutrition element, as well as an
essential part of the oferings to the gods of
agriculture.
During the harvest in Eleusis, one of
Demeter's priestesses, or a servant, would
follow a ritual to reap the wheat from
Demeter's sacred field and then store it in her
temple.
During the Eleusinian Mysteries, the wheat
cob was ofered to the gods, as a symbol of
abundance.
The wheat, closely related to Demeter, is our
town's symbol!
